Microneedling

Microneedling (With or Without PRP)

What is Micro-Needling Therapy?

If you are looking to reduce the look of acne scarring, or fine lines and wrinkles, micro-needling therapy could be the solution! This non-surgical procedure falls under the category of regenerative medicine because it stimulates natural healing processes. According to this 2017 study published in the National Institute of Health, micro-needling increases the rate at which topical remedies are absorbed by breaking up atrophic scar tissues and allowing greater permeation.

Micro-needling uses a fine needle to create ‘micro-injuries’ in the outer layers of your skin. These micro-injuries trigger your body’s cellular regenerative process and the production of collagen and elastin can begin. These are the fundamental building blocks of healthy, radiant skin and will help to reduce the look of imperfections and break up existing scarring.

What Can I Expect from a Micro-Needling Session?

We’ve included some of the more common questions that our patients have about micro-needling therapy below.

How Does the Procedure Work?

Each session uses a fresh, sanitized applicator. The practitioner will then apply gentle pressure on the area, gliding the pen across the desired skin area. You will experience a slight scratching sensation, which is virtually painless. The length of each session depends on the size of the area you are attempting to treat, as well as the current condition of your skin.

What Areas See the Most Benefit From Micro-Needling?

Micro-needling can be used on all parts of the body, think of areas that are commonly afflicted by skin imperfections like acne, wrinkles as well as uneven skin tones. The areas that our patients most commonly ask to have treated are:

  • Face
  • Neck
  • Arms
  • Legs
  • Back

How Soon Will I See Results?

Although some patients may see some immediate results, regenerative medicine is a progressive process. You will see some benefits within days, others may take a few weeks to develop and some experience continuing benefits even as long as months after their procedure. It is all case by case and depends on your goals.

Micro-Needling With or Without PRP

Micro-needling is often paired with an application of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) for additional regenerative benefits and cellular proliferation. At Internal Beauty Med Spa, we allow offering these services both separately and in conjunction with one another.

PRP is a derivative of your blood – A small sample is taken and placed in a centrifuge, where it condenses into its respective components, red blood cells, white blood cells, and plasma which now has a concentrated amount of platelets. PRP has powerful anti-inflammatory properties and is rich in growth factors that are responsible for regenerating and repairing damaged tissues and cells.

Micro-needling creates a unique opportunity to administer PRP through the skin. The tiny perforations created during the procedure allow for topical PRP to be absorbed and provide regenerative benefits to the area.
